Installing the server components silently

In some situations it can be convenient to automate the installation of server components to save time or to ensure identical installations. This can be done by running the Meridian executable setup program in silent mode with a response file that provides the setup program with all of the desired setup choices.

To perform silent installation of the 32-bit server components, create a copy of the setup.iss file and modify it as described in Installing the client components silently except enable the desired server component options instead.

To perform silent installation of the 64-bit server components:

  1. Copy the setup program file to a temporary location on the server computer.
  2. Run the setup program to completion with the optional record mode command switch: BC-Meridian Server (x64).exe -r. The setup program runs interactively so that you can choose installation options. The setup program stores your installation options in a response file named Setup.iss that is created in the Windows folder. To specify an alternative response file name and location, also use the option /f1<Path>\<file name>.
  3. Run the setup program again with the optional silent mode command switch: BC-Meridian Server (x64).exe -s. The setup program runs silently with the installation options provided by the response file that you created in step 2.
  4. Test the installation for the expected results. If you encounter problems, first read the AMM-Setup<BuildNumber>.log file located in the Windows folder for errors. If necessary, uninstall the components, edit the Setup.iss file, and repeat the installation until you obtain the correct results.

Although the principle remains the same for each Meridian release, some response file options may be discontinued over time and some new options may be introduced. Always use the setup.iss file included with each release instead of reusing the same setup.iss file with every new release.
